It really started about three years ago when The Lowry commissioned me to work with the performance/mass event North American artist Spencer Tunick. They asked me to liase with Spencer and find locations in Manchester that could be interesting and safe enough to have a series of events that could be arranged in which 500 nude people could be photographed in eight locations all in the same day. Interesting in Manchester is pretty easy, to be honest. Safe is a bit trickier for a variety of reasons. Also variables such as light, location and colour are things I had to think about. I quite liked some of the photographs I was doing to send over to New York for Spencer to look at in relation to the project and this got me thinking about my own work. About 20 years ago I used to do quite a bit of gallery work and shows but pressures of family and suchlike made me concentrate on commercial work. I have always found the work I do very enjoyable mainly working for major corporations and institutions, but the feeling I have for photography as an art form has never left me.
